Terms of use
By using this site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use it.
Who runs this site
This site is operated by Conall Bailie, a barrister practising in England and Wales, of 2BR, 95 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1DT. It is run by him personally and not by a company. Contact: hello@pointsandbans.co.uk.
2BR does not operate this site and is named here only as the address for correspondence.
Information, not legal advice
Everything on this site is general information about the law of England and Wales. It is not legal advice and must not be relied on as advice about your own case. Using the tool does not create a barrister–client relationship, and no duty of care arises from your use of it.
If the outcome matters — and where a licence, a job or a conviction is involved it usually does — take advice from someone who can consider your actual facts.
Estimates are estimates
The tool applies published sentencing guidelines to the answers you give. It cannot know the facts of your case, the evidence, the prosecution’s position, your record, or the view the particular court will take. Courts have a discretion to sentence outside the guideline ranges. Figures produced are illustrative and outcomes vary.
Accuracy and currency
The site is prepared with care and each page carries the date the law is stated as at. The law changes, and guidelines are revised. No warranty is given that the content is complete, current or free from error at the moment you read it.
Jurisdiction
The content concerns England and Wales only. It does not apply to Scotland or Northern Ireland, where the law and the procedure differ.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for any loss arising from reliance on this site. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Intellectual property
The content, design and code of this site are protected by copyright. You may read, print and share pages for your own use. You may not republish or reproduce them commercially without permission.
Links
Links to other sites are provided for convenience. We are not responsible for their content.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
If something here is wrong
Nothing is sold on this site, so there is no client relationship and no formal complaints procedure. If you think something on a page is wrong or out of date, email hello@pointsandbans.co.uk and it will be looked at and corrected if it should be.
If a paid advice service is offered here in future, anyone instructing me will receive a client care letter setting out the complaints procedure and the route to the Legal Ombudsman before any work begins. That is separate from these terms, which govern use of the free site.
